They are a rather organised group of people. They serve the people most of the time... uhm... maybe its a select few. I am commuting from cosmocity which is a housing project a few minutes from Randburg, Jozi. I have to take a taxi from cosmo to town everyday quiet axpensive but it has to be done or else I don't meet the SP requirement of the Wits university. Anyway, there is a taxi rank that the taxis have to to use as agreed among the taxi drivers ( there was one built for them but they don't like where it is thus they don't use it) the lines at the taxi rank get rather long everyday and I was told you can wait there for as long as an hour. Employers, far as i know do not accept waiting in a line for a taxi as an excuse for coming in late for work so people don't go to the taxi rank, they just stand in the main road and hold three fingers in the air meaning they are going to town and a taxi driver comes and picks them up. Not all taxi drivers do this, but some do and they are a darling to those commuters that don't want to go to town. This is ofcourse not fair on the commuters who actually go to the taxi rank, but since I stand in the main road, I say its a cut throat world. (and yes, if I was going to the taxi rank aswell i would curse and moan over the how unfair it is that I have to wait for such a long time for a taxi and then people just get picked up on the side of the road.)
Thank you
